Russia intends to create joint venture for the production of unmanned
aerial vehicles with the Israeli company Israel Aerospace Industries.
This, according to RIA Novosti, said director general of state
corporation Russian Technologies Chemezov. According to him, the final
decision on the establishment of the joint venture will be accepted
after the Russian Ministry of Defense will hold a test of Israeli UAVs.
Interfax reported with reference to the words of Chemezov, in the
interests of the Russian Defense Ministry in Israel had been purchased
15 UAVs. They will participate in trials. In June 2009, Russia bought
12 UAVs worth 53 million dollars. The number of purchased units included
Bird-Eye 400, I-View MK150 and Searcher Mk II.
In December 2009
it became known that Russia has begun negotiations with Israel
Aerospace Industries to purchase the UAVs in the amount of one hundred
million dollars. It was assumed that the Israeli UAV for Russia will be
equipped with advanced monitoring system.
In early April 2010
Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Vladimir Popovkin said that the
Ministry of Defence has spent for R&D of UAVs five billion rubles
without achieving any result. According to the Russian Air Force
Commander Alexander Zelin Russian UAVs do not satisfy the requirements
of the military in any of the parameters.
UAVs by Russian
military today are practically not used. The only UAV that meets modern
standards is a complex fescue. Now some of the Russian companies are
developing several UAVs, including Skate by Company MiG.
